Firewood

We have been chopping and hauling wood for our wood stove. The pasture has some huge dead trees that have been perfect! The kids love seeing the stacks of wood get bigger and bigger!

Spinning honey

My friend Holly asked if I would com and help her harvest her honey yeasterday. She is amazing, and is trying to get me to get my own hive next year. Why not? This was so much fun! She ended up with over 120 lds of honey from her hive!

Stubborn little girl

I tell you what, super nanny might know what she is talking about, but she has never met my little Merett. Since we have moved into this house (the end of May), we have consistently been taking Merett back to her bed every time she gets out. Not making eye contact, you know, the whole thing. Anyway, it has not been working! I am at my whits end! Obviously from the pictures. No baby gate, so why not a bookshelf waiting to be painted with a couple of chairs wedged in so it wouldn't tip over? Presto, a "baby gate". It will have to work until tomorrow when I can run to the store. Now that she is asleep, I can slide the shelf away. It did the trick for a mom that was at a breaking point!

bed makeover

So, our bed has finally had a little makeover! We needed some extra storage for our food storage buckets, so they became our bed frame. Now what to do for a bed skirt that is for a bed that is an odd height? Make one of course. I didn't feel like busting out the sewing machine, so I cut strips of white king sized sheets and stapled- yes stapled them to 1 x 3 lengths of board and slipped them under my mattress edges. I know it is a quick fix, and it could have been done a lot better, but I had no time, and a 2 year old helping me! It will work for the time being.

Tonights amazing dinner

So, it was an afterthought to take a picture of dinner, but it was soooo good! I have to put the recipe online so that I will remember to make again. It was one of those that kind of evolved as I went along, that actually turned out! So here it goes

Penne Pasta with Creamy Tomato Sauce and pan seared chicken

6 boneless skinless chicken tenders
2 cloves garlic, minces
2 T extra virgin olive oil
1 t basil ( i only had dried )
4 pieces bacon cut into 1" pieces
1 jar spaghetti sauce
3-4 oz cream cheese
handful spinach, chopped
fresh grated Parmesan
cooked penne pasta

Heat the oil in pan with garlic, basil, and salt. Brown chicken on both sides. Add bacon and cover until bacon is crispy. Pour in spaghetti sauce and stir in cream cheese until mixed. Toss in spinach right before serving. Pour over cooked pasta and sprinkle the top with parmesan cheese and fresh ground pepper.

Soap Making

SO I tried a new method of soap making. I have made cold precess soap before, but have never done the hot process. It turned out really well, and have LOVED having homemade soap again. My skin is so happy! I made a lemon verbena poppy seed, a plain lemon verbena, and a carrot soap. Merett loved helping me juice the carrots!

Life on the farm

Well, we are now in Lehi on 2 acres. Our family has grown by 11 chickens, 4 turkeys, 4 pigs, and a German Shepherd pup named Mack. The kids all love it here and they run and play outside all day. Hudson learned the hard way why it is not good to drink out of the irrigation canal. He had a stomach ache for a week!
